The Dolphins’ Rebuild Starts NOW | Raiders Week on Nothing to Hyde

On the latest episode of Out to Pasture Presents: Nothing to Hyde, award-winning columnist Dave Hyde and former Miami Dolphins defender Kim Bokamper look ahead to Miami's season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders and discuss what we should really expect from one of the youngest teams in the NFL.

With as many as nine rookies potentially playing significant roles, Dave and Bo explain why this Dolphins season shouldn't necessarily be judged by wins and losses. Instead, they'll be watching for development from players like Jacob Rodriguez, Patrick Paul, Chop Robinson and Miami's other young building blocks - and whether Jeff Hafley's new regime can establish a sustainable foundation for the future.

But first, the Raiders.

Dave believes Las Vegas may have done Miami a favor by starting Kirk Cousins, while Bo explains why he expects this young Dolphins roster to look considerably different by the middle of the season than it does in Week 1.

Then the conversation heads into Dolphins history - and the stories start flying.

Bo reveals that Al Davis tried to acquire him from Miami immediately after the 1976 NFL Draft, only for Bokamper to be told he'd have to call Don Shula himself and say he refused to play for the Dolphins.

His response? You can probably guess.

From there, Dave and Bo revisit the fascinating shared history between two franchises that once ruled the AFC, including the legendary Sea of Hands game, the radically different philosophies of Don Shula and Al Davis, a mysterious Raiders playbook that once appeared in Larry Csonka's locker, and one of the strangest Raiders draft-pick stories you'll ever hear.

Plus:

•Why Jeff Hafley can say this season isn't about wins and losses
•What Miami needs to see from its massive rookie class
•Why continuity matters when building a winning NFL roster
•The similarities between today's Dolphins and the 2019 rebuild
•Why Dolphins-Raiders has been intertwined for six decades
•Bo's incredible Al Davis story from the 1976 NFL Draft
•Don Shula vs. Al Davis: two completely different ways to build a winner
•Celebrity sightings on the NFL sidelines
•And Dave finally remembers the name Nothing to Hyde…mostly

And after all the analysis, Dave and Bo make their Week 1 picks:

Dolphins win.
